Creating a map cross section

This resource provides step-by-step instructions explaining how to create a cross section on a topographic map. A map extract is provided together with student tasks and an extension.

A map cross section uses the contour lines to show the shape of the land from the side, as if a knife had cut through it. Follow the instructions to draw a cross section to show the relief of the land.

Thank you. This resource is well set out and explains the feet above sea level on an American Map. As Australia uses Metres above sea level, I shall source another example. Bu I thank you for the professional layout of this source.
