Build your own slum!
An imaginative lesson focussing on the life of a new arrival in a shantytown. The students consider what would be like to arrive in a city and build a makeshift home. Students work in small groups and have to build their own shelter using pieces of rubbish and recycling.
As they progress through the development of their shelter they choose chance cards which will have an impact on their shelter - either good or bad, but reflective of real like impacts for people living in these circumstances.
This lesson requires some preparation, the gathering of recycling materials for students to use to create their makeshift homes.
